Sajid Ahmed Khan Qawwali Ensemble
The Sajid Ahmed Khan Qawwali Ensemble are the foremost British based exponents of Qawwali music. They have performed around the Sufi shrines of Muslim Saints in India and Pakistan the artform was brought into prominence in the West by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Sajid Ahmed Khan comes from an illustrious line of Qawwali singers and his grandfather led arguably the finest Qawwals of the early 20th century. His name was Nasir Khan, also known as (Kallan Khan) & Banae Khan in Dehli (India).
Sajid trained under Ustad Taufeeq Ahmed Khan Niazi and has performed throughout the world. He is commited to establishing a British tradition in Qawwali with hybrid developments with the contemporary musicians and producers supplementing the classical styles.
His performances sweep audiences into a trance with scintillating renderings of devotional ecstatic sufi mystical poetry in his own unique melodic style accompanied by harmonium, tabla, Dholak and rythmic handclap, and improvised vocal back-up from his group.
