Khim

Khim

The khim or kim is a Thai dulcimer, made of hardwood and played using two flexible bamboo sticks, one held in each hand. The stricks have a soft leather tip, giving the instrument its soft tone. The main body of the instrument is trapezoid in shape; fourteen groups of strings are stretched across the instrument with three strings in each group: a total of 42 strings. The instrument was introduced to Thailand from China, where a similar-looking instrument exists.
