Join us for a special evening of performance featuring classical north Indian music and folk music from Rajasthan.
Indian music has always been closely connected with the environment in which it evolved, particularly with climate and seasons. Visit the Raphael gallery for a concert inspired by the Indian monsoon which allows for a diversity of emotions to be expressed in music. Omkar Dadarkar, a vocalist of the Gwalior gharana, performs ragas associated with the rainy season and is accompanied by Sanjoy Adhikari on tabla and by Rekesh Chauhan on harmonium.
Also enjoy traditional folk music and Kalbelia dance from Rajasthan throughout the galleries. Performed to celebrate joyful moments and lifecycle events, Kalbelia dance and songs represent the creative response of this community of snake charmers and Shiva worshippers to changing socioeconomic conditions in rural Rajasthani society.
