Music Arts Festival Director Pravin Majithia has been organising Navratri in the city of Leicester for over 21 years. Over 5,000 people are expected to attend over the duration of the festival, which runs from 16-23 October, with a further two nights allocated for Sharad Poonamon 26-27 October. A professional music group will be flying in from Mumbai to perform live for the entire duration. The group’s male vocalist Rajendra Pala is a leading playback singer in the Gujarati music arena. All net proceeds will be going to local charity Coping with Cancer.
All net proceeds raised through the event will be given directly to the charity. Every year they publish a piece about the event in their newsletter. Mr Majithia’s wife, who is a volunteer with the charity, is passionate about the care they provide as she has worked very closely with the team.
Cost are kept low to encourage more young people and adults to take part in the festival. People from all backgrounds, cultures and religions are welcome. Organisers pride themselves on sticking to traditional Gujarati music and customs, while ensuring there is a friendly family atmosphere.
